What’s on in Cornwall 2022
By Pentewan Sands on the January 21st, 2022 in
This year Cornwall is back to the norm, with a whole host of events scheduled to go ahead, of course this is subject to any government guidance which may be in place nearer the time, however we do hope that we see the return of many loved Cornish events which have been cancelled the previous couple of years due to the dreaded pandemic. So we have put together an events guide to help you find out which events coincide with your visit.
In the area:
March
5th March – St Pirans Day / World Pasty Championships and Cornish pasty week at Eden
The 5th March is a very special date for Cornwall as it's St Piran’s Day. St Piran was famed for his discovery of the precious metal tin, and the flag of Saint Piran is now also recognized as the Cornish flag. Every year, throughout Cornwall, marches, festivals and Cornish themed events are held to celebrate this day. It is the perfect time to indulge in some Cornish delicacies including pasties, saffron cake and a scrumptious cream tea (jam first of course!).
The Eden Project will be hosting their 10th annual World Pasty Championships this year – with pasty galore, live music and entertainment from local bands.
Although Pentewan Sands does not reopen until 25th March, our sister site Heligan Caravan and Camping is open for bookings if you don’t want to miss out on a good old Cornish shindig.
April
30th April – 2nd May – CMC Riviera Run
Celebrating 25 years, the Cornish Mini Club is back and will be hosted at Pentewan Sands! Each year the Riviera Run attracts an impressive show of minis from across the decades. An events programme across the Saturday, Sunday and Monday is offered, with food stalls, a bar, competitions and trade stands – an enjoyable weekend for all ages!
If you are staying onsite during this weekend, entry to the Riviera Run is included in the cost of your stay. If you’re looking to visit for the day, either Saturday, Sunday or Monday, the cost of entry is £10 per car., if you’re visiting the whole weekend, the cost is £15 per car. The perfect way to spend your May Bank Holiday weekend.
May
6th – 14th May – Fowey Festival
Fowey Art & Literature Festival features a diverse range of authors, speakers, musicians and artists throughout the week – the perfect event for book lovers!
May / June – Eden Sessions
The Eden Sessions are a series of live music festivals held in the summer, May & June typically. Located in the spectacular setting of the Eden Project, it really is an unforgettable experience to see the world-famous biomes lit up whilst enjoying a boogie to one of your favourite artists or bands.
The Eden Project also hope to use the Eden Sessions to encourage the audience to think about the impact that they have on the environment, with all of the profits going towards Eden’s educational charity – all in all, a great evening for a great cause!
This year artists include My Chemical Romance, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Noel Gallagher and Bryan Adams. Tickets are currently still available for most acts, but won’t be for long!
July
23rd – 29th July – Charlestown Regatta
Just a short drive from Pentewan Sands is the historic harbour of Charlestown. A very popular place amongst locals and visitors, as well as being a prime location for filming a number of TV series and films, including Poldark.
Regatta week each year brings together the local community for a weeks-long celebration of one of the most iconic villages in the county
August
14th – 20th August – Fowey Regatta Week
Named one of the best local regattas in the country, this fun-filled week attracts plenty of visitors each year!
With a full programme of events scheduled to run this year, including races, the carnival procession, Giant Pasty ceremony, Flora Dance, classic car rally, swimming races, pasty–eating competitions, Fowey Town Band and firework displays, it is definitely one to try and squeeze into your trip if you get the chance.
