Pentewan beach is the centre of our world; it’s our home, our playground and our happy place. It’s got the looks to send you starry eyed and the sense for adventure to get your blood pumping.
Find out here why it’s so ridiculously special and get the lowdown on everything from facilities and activities to wildlife and walks. Welcome to one of the finest beaches in Cornwall.
The beach itself
Gloriously wide and beautifully golden, Pentewan beach stretches for over half a mile and is as sandy as they come. And it’s ours. We own Pentewan beach so can 100% guarantee that every grain of sand is clean, beautiful and primed for beach games, sandcastle building or just sitting back and taking in the view. Perfect!
Visit at low tide to explore the rock pools or let the kids have fun splashing in the shallows around a bank of exposed sand that becomes cocooned by the sea. And this is a beach that doesn’t disappoint at high tide either as there’s still plenty of sand to enjoy when the sea has rolled in.
The location
Location matters and Pentewan beach hits the spot on so many levels. Tucked away on the sheltered south Cornish coast near the fishing village of Mevagissey it offers a pleasant relief from the big name north coast beaches that pull in the crowds. But while Pentewan is a lesser known gem on the tourist trail, it’s super easy to get to and is impossible to miss when staying with us – in fact, some of our pitches are right on it!
The action
Ready for action? You’ve come to the right place, Pentewan beach is spilling over with an adventurous spirit. Cornwall Watersports has set up shop here offering expert sessions in everything from paddle boarding and kayaking to windsurfing and adrenaline-filled boat rides. And if you like banana boat rides, we’ve got those too. There’s also equipment hire and water-lovers with their own sailing or motorboat can use our professional launching services (available from mid-May to the end of September). Thrill-seekers, we’ve got you covered!
And if you fancy a dip, Pentewan beach is the perfect swimming spot. Sandwiched between two headlands it is blissfully sheltered and super safe for little paddlers.
The food and drink
Whether you’re taking it easy and soaking up the sun or having full throttle fun, beach days are guaranteed to work up an appetite. Luckily at Pentewan beach you’ll find a pick of fab places to grab a bite to eat or quench your thirst…
Head to The Seahorse for crowd-pleasing locally sourced food. The feast-worthy menu serves up traditional family favourites alongside daily specials and Sunday roasts. The panoramic views across the bay are more than a little impressive too and outside the beach can be viewed in all its glory from the raised balcony – a perfect spot for evening sundowners.
If your time at the beach has put you in the mood for a good-old portion of fish and chips, follow your nose to the delicious smelling Pentewan Plaice where you can pick from the eat-in restaurant or grab a takeaway to enjoy back on the beach with sand between your toes. And it’s pretty hard to resist the Hubbox perched right on the beach – it’s renowned for the tastiest homemade burgers and legendary hot dogs. Delicious doesn’t even come close! And finally, a trip to the beach wouldn’t be complete without ice creams and lollies, especially if you’ve got kids in tow, so a visit to our on-site mini supermarket has got to be done!
Facilities
We’ve already ticked off car parking and places to eat so toilets complete the essential beach facilities trio…and they’re in ample supply. With the beach and holiday park nestled side-by-side you can take your pick from the toilet and shower blocks dotted around the caravan and camping pitches. And as you’ve come to expect of Pentewan, these aren’t just any toilet blocks; we’ve got a brand-new toilet block in the making, super-sized family rooms and a laundrette which always comes in handy after a day of beach escapades!
And Pentewan doesn’t just deliver on the boring yet important essentials, it also wins full marks for the awesome play park. It’s right on the beach (a surprising rarity in Cornwall) and serves up swings and slides, with a massive helping of serious coastal eye candy. Parks don’t get much better than this!
The walks
When you’re done splashing around and fancy stretching your legs you’ll find yourself in a good spot on Pentewan beach. Being positioned right on the South West Coast Path means there’s walks in either direction aplenty. For a short option with plenty of interest and the promise of pasties and ice creams at the end, head for Mevagissey just 2.3 miles away or strike out in the other direction and you’ll find yourself in the tiny village of Porthpean and beyond that, Charlestown with its Grade II listed harbour and ancient Tall Ships.
The wildlife
Dolphins, basking sharks, angel fish, sea lions, sea birds; the marine wildlife off the coast of Mevagissey Bay is wonderfully wide and varied. Hop aboard the 28ft RIB run by Cornwall Watersports for the chance to experience it and see marine wildlife thrive in its natural habitat.
See you at the beach soon!
